Sharks Win Districts
On Wednesday, the Lady Sharks flag football team competed against Bloomingdale in the district finals. The Sharks won 20-12. After the game, Head Coach Willie Sargable was awarded the Coach of the Year. This is also Riverview’s first flag football district title since 2007.
In the game against Bloomingdale, the Sharks were up 14-0 in the first half. Then, Bloomindale got 12 unanswered points in the third quarter. Finally, in the fourth quarter Stephanie Garcia scored a touchdown that sealed the win for Riverview. Varsity Offense Coach David Coffey says,” With this win we are now tied for the most victories in a season in school history for flag football.”
Some stats from the game were Madyson Carrera had 250 yards passing as well as throwing for three touchdowns (TDs). Garcia caught two TDs, one for 26 yards and the other for 59. Tania Clark had one 32-yd TD reception. On the defensive side of the ball, both Carrera and Garcia recorded an interception.
After the game, Riverview had four players named to the All-Conference team, including Clark; Garcia and Carrera who all made the First Team and Juliana O’ Connor, who had made Second Team.
Their next game is the regional semifinals at home on Thursday, May 2 against St. Cloud.
