Riverview Wrestling Regionals
Before spring break, our Sharks went to Osceola to compete in the wrestling Regionals. The team finished third out of the 37 teams participating, collecting 103 points. Riverview lost to Manatee and the host Osceola squad.
In the meet, RVHS had Josh Guerra placing second in his weight class (113). Chris Felix and Tyler Forrest both finished third, losing to the eventual champion in their individual weight classes, with Felix in the 132 and Forrest in the 120. Lane Keck at 106 hurt his shoulder in the second match and still managed to finish fourth.
Some wrestlers that got big points were Keck (51-8) , who scored 15 points, Guerra (40-9), as well as Forrest (36-7), who both individually scored 18 points, Chris Felix (49-6) scored 14 points and Centrell Sommers (43-13) scored 10 points.
A few of the wrestlers had some very notable finishes. Niko Hernandez lost a very close match in the semi-finals. He joins the list of Shemar Williams, Gunnar Malouff, and Sommers, who all finished one match from qualifying for states.
The 4A State Championships will be held at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee next weekend.
