Wrestling Duals
Last weekend, the Riverview Wrestling team hosted the 6-way duals. The Sharks had a very dominating performance going 5-0. The wrestlers defeated Jefferson in round one (72-9), then topped Plant City (70-6), Gaither and Middleton by identical 72-0 shutouts before closing out the competition by triumphing over Alonso (70-5) in the fifth round.
Out of the 46 individual matches, the Sharks lost only one, as every wrestler but one went 5-0 on the day. The team also had a few successful revenge matches. In the 138 weight class, Carmelo Edwards defeated two opponents who he previously lost to in other meets. In the 170, Nick Franklin beat an opponent who he previously lost to in the season as well Dante Hernandez in the 285.
Overall, this was an outstanding performance displayed by our athletes. Beating every team by a colossal amount of over 60 points. Assistant wrestling coach David Coffey said, “it was a great tune up as the team prepares for the county tournament.”
