Hendrix Takes Second
The cross country season came to a close as Sophomore Runner Alyssa Hendrix competed at the state meet. Hendrix finished the race with a time of 17:30, breaking the previous state record and placing at runner up. Her time was more than a minute faster than her freshman year state time of 18:33.
Hendrix also performed with her best result of this season, which was 21 seconds quicker than her personal record from meets prior to states.
She felt positive following the result, stating, “I am very happy with how I performed, and even though I got second, I know that I can come back junior year and get first place.”
Hendrix devoted a great deal of time and effort into preparation for the state meet. She completed a multitude of difficult workouts and practiced both her breathing and form.
The runner felt that the course was great to compete on. She noticed that it had extremely hilly portions followed by sections that were very flat. However, she also paid little attention to the quality of the course itself seeing as she was focused on the race.
RVHS Head Cross Country Coach Mary Lichtenberger also felt very proud of Hendrix’s accomplishments. According to Lichtenberger, “Alyssa is one of the most dedicated, hardest working athletes I have ever met.”
